In Which I Cupcake It Up

I went in for my first shift at the cupcake shop today. Everyone was very friendly and welcoming. It looks like it's going to be a good fit. It's very similar to everything I've ever done as far as customer service goes, although the stakes are somewhat higher here. It is Nashville. You never know who's who and who is connected with whom...this shop does bring in the country music stars for sure. It's pretty simple retail. It's the cake/cupcake orders that get a bit intricate, but there's a folder and a system for everything. Once I learn that, no problem.

There are around 30 flavors of cupcakes. They are all so beautiful. I am allowed to use glitter and small fondant decorations at my discretion. Teehee. During downtime, we work with fondant either for special orders or just seasonal decorations for the in-store cupcakes. It's a lot of fun.

I went in from 8am-12:30 today. Little short shift. Anything else might have been a bit overwhelming. I was encouraged to take cupcakes with me as I left. They want me to try all of the flavors so that I'll know what I'm selling. Such a hardship! I have already eaten one. It was amazing.

I can tell I'm really going to enjoy this. As we were working out how we would make owl beaks and pumpkin tendrils, I thought, "I can't believe this is part of my job." I know it won't always be fun. There will be hard days and times when I'm confused. I will probably end up doing something wrong. But that's work. And if I have to be employed (which I do), I'd say I have the 2 best jobs around.
